Bradford-Swissport Limited (BSL) is a joint venture between Bradford Airport Logistics (BAL), the North American leader in consolidated receiving and distribution centres, and Swissport International, which provides ground services at 191 airports worldwide, including London Heathrow Airport.

BSL’s requirement was to equip a fleet of 13 trucks, (primarily DAF CF 75s), with 3G routers in order to provide internet access via Wi-Fi to handheld devices.  These devices run BSL’s own in-house Enterprise Resource Planning system, AMIS (Airport Material Intelligence System), which is used to track and control material being delivered from BSL’s facility to the airport.  The 3G routers were required to allow the handheld devices to upload and download tracking data, receive notifications of pickups and returns, and carry out messaging.

Because the trucks were in almost constant use during the day we carried out the installations at BSL’s facility near Heathrow over a weekend, when it was more convenient for trucks to be taken out of operation.  Dual high-gain roof-mounted antennas were used in order to maximise 3G performance.

Director of IT at BAL, Chris Athans, commented “We are very pleased with the in-vehicle routers provided and installed by In-CarPC, and would not hesitate to use the company again.  The team’s willingness to install the 3g routers over a weekend was a great help and an example of the level of customer service that we received throughout the project.”
