The IBR1100 is a rugged 4G / LTE vehicle router which creates a Wi-Fi hotspot supporting up to 128 Wi-Fi devices such as tablets, laptops and mobile phones. The IBR1100 features dual-SIM functionality for network failover and built-in technology to maintain a persistent and reliable data connection wherever possible. Large deployments of IBR1100 devices are easily managed by the ECM cloud-based remote management solution.

Captive Portal Features

The IBR1100 router supports the following hotspot / captive portal features as standard:

  • Require users to accept terms & conditions before being granted access to the internet (terms & conditions can either be stored in the router itself, or hosted on an external webpage)
  • Redirect users to a splash page of your choice after they accept the terms & conditions (or when they first connect, if no terms & conditions are used)
  • Limit the bandwidth of each Wi-Fi client (i.e. the "speed" of each user's internet connection)
  • Limit the duration that each Wi-Fi client can connect for (although after the limit expires users can just simply re-connect)
  • Setup "white-listed" sites (e.g. your own) that users can view without having to accept terms & conditions
  • Allow approved on-board devices (e.g. ticketing systems, CCTV systems, vehicle PCs, etc.) to bypass the captive portal - either by specifying the MAC address of each allowed device, or by setting up a completely separate, password-protected Wi-Fi network for such devices.

Perfect for Bus, Coach & Taxi Applications

A number of features make the IBR1100 particularly suited to bus, coach and other public transport vehicle applications, where operators wish to customise the user experience and ensure that a large number of Wi-Fi devices all obtain high quality connectivity.

Captive Portal

The first - as detailed above - is the facility to hold devices connecting to the network in a captive portal before granting access to the wider internet. A wide range of release events are supported*, from simply requiring the user to accept terms and conditions through to requiring payment for internet access - either as soon as the device connects or when an initial free trial period expires (defined by time or traffic).

Apply Bandwidth & Traffic Restrictions 

Another feature designed for bus & coach operators is the ability to set a fixed bandwidth limit per Wi-Fi device, preventing a small number of users from saturating the cellular connection and adversely affecting the user experience for everyone else.  Other restrictions such as limiting the absolute amount of data downloaded by each client can also be achieved*.

Multiple cellular WAN connections

Additional cellular backhaul connections can be added in one of two ways, taking advantage of the IBR1100's load balancing capabilities:

  • A dual modem dock is available for the IBR1100 which adds a secondary cellular modem.  This provides a dual-modem solution, each one of which supports up to 2 SIM cards.   
  • Up to 3 extra IBR1100 devices can be connected to the primary IBR1100 via its network ports in order to increase the overall cellular backhaul capacity to up to four concurrent 4G connections in total (each dual-SIM).  If every IBR1100 also includes a dual modem dock then the total number of cellular WAN connections is increased to 8.  

Connect other on-board devices

As well as providing Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities to passengers' Wi-Fi devices, the IBR1100 can also provide reliable internet connectivity to on-board devices such as CCTV systems, ticketing / point-of-sale machines and digital signage equipment.  Such equipment can either connect to a separate Wi-Fi network which is completely isolated from the passenger Wi-Fi network (and not subject to bandwidth restrictions, T's & C's acceptance, etc.) or by cable to one of the IBR1100's 3 Ethernet ports.  

For added flexibility the IBR1100 supports Wi-Fi as WAN – obtaining connectivity from an external Wi-Fi network rather than its built-in cellular modem (e.g. for uploading large amounts of CCTV footage when a vehicle returns to its depot at night).

Designed for Vehicles

The IBR1100 is designed specifically for the vehicle environment, and has the following features as standard:

  • Rugged design – protected against shock, vibration, humidity, dust and splashes (MIL-STD-810G, SAEJ1455 and IP64 compliant)
  • Ignition sensing - the IBR1100 turns on automatically with the vehicle ignition
  • Configurable shut-down delays – after the ignition is turned off the IBR1100 continues operating for a specified amount of time (configured in the router's control panel or via remote management). This prevents the router from powering down when the vehicle is not being used for short periods of time, e.g. at pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Support for dual external cellular antennas (MIMO) for maximum performance
  • Wide input voltage range of 9-36V with reverse polarity and transient voltage protection
  • Wide operating temperature range of -30 to +70 degrees C
  • E-mark certified – fully approved for permanent in-vehicle use
  • Integrated mounting holes for easy installation, plus a compact physical footprint

Enterprise Cloud Manager (ECM)

ECM allows remote configuration and troubleshooting of your router estate.

ECM is a cloud management service for the IBR1100 router.  It enables remote monitoring, configuration and troubleshooting of your routers "over the air".  ECM is an invaluable tool for ongoing management of your router estate, and drastically reduces the frequency of on-site visits required in the event of problems or configuration changes needing to be made.  A range of alerts can be configured, notifying you of situations including connectivity issues and excessive data usage. 


ECM is a paid-for service requiring a small annual subscription charge per router.  An enhanced version of ECM - ECM Prime - is also available, which adds location reporting and enterprise-grade routing features.  Please contact us for details.
