Built-in 4G Internet Connectivity Now Available
We are pleased to announce that our in-car computers are now available with built-in 4G (LTE) internet connectivity. Although 4G network coverage in many countries, including the UK, is very limited at the moment, computers ordered with 4G connectivity will be ready to take advantage of future network enhancements, and also perform faster on existing 3G networks than our current PCs with 3G-only modules.
The new internal 4G modules offer the following advantages:
Significantly faster theoretical peak download speeds (up to 100 Mbps) and upload speeds (up to 50 Mbps) under 4G, where supported by the network
Fallback to 3G, with better performance than the current 3G-only modules. The new 4G modules fall back to 3G (HSPA+) when no 4G coverage is available, and support download speeds up to 21.1 Mbps. The current 3G-only modules are limited to download speeds of 14.4 Mbps.
Integrated GPS receiver supporting active GPS antennas. Although the current 3G-only modules include GPS functionality, active GPS antennas are not supported and enabling GPS prevents the use of twin 3G diversity antennas (which are recommended for optimum 3G performance). PCs with the new 4G modules support two 3G/4G antennas plus a dedicated active GPS antenna, removing the need for a discrete GPS module unless dead reckoning is required.
The new 4G modules will be offered alongside the existing 3G-only modules, which remain the most cost-effective choice for customers not needing support for the fastest data transfer rates.
