Our vehicle computers can include built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, which can be used both to communicate with other Wi-Fi devices and to connect to Wi-Fi networks.
Wi-Fi is very useful for applications where programs running on the PC need to synchronise regularly, but where 3G connectivity is not considered economical. By installing a Wi-Fi hotspot in a location where the vehicle is guaranteed to be on a regular basis (e.g. a depot or taxi rank), programs running on the PC will be able to synchronise data on a regular basis. Our PCs can support the latest 802.11n networks, including those in the 5 GHz frequency band, making them an ideal medium for rapidly transferring large amounts of data over short distances.
Of course, our PCs can also take advantage of public Wi-Fi hotspots, with optional antennas that can be mounted externally (e.g. roof-mounted) to maximise the range over which Wi-Fi can be used.
With Wi-Fi connectivity our car computers can also transfer data to and from other nearby Wi-Fi devices such as phones, PDAs and laptops. In fact, the built-in Wi-Fi adapter can be used to create a Wi-Fi hotspot, sharing the vehicle PC's 3G internet connection with other nearby devices.
The Wi-Fi hardware that we use supports the latest 802.11n technology, which maximises both speed and range for optimum performance, but is also backwards compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g networks.
