The following five features of our in-vehicle PCs illustrate exactly why they are an ideal solution for security and surveillance organisations, particularly mobile patrols.
Navigation & Tracking
When combined with relevant software, our in-vehicle PCs' built-in GPS functionality allows security patrols to be directed around public roads and patrol sites precisely and efficiently. As they are fully featured Windows PCs, specialist mapping software can be installed so that detailed maps of patrol sites can be used for navigation. This could even include locations of alarms, or layouts of buildings, which would help assist with any incidents should they occur.
Security organisations would also be able to take advantage of fleet tracking by using GPS. This would be particularly useful in the event of a disruption or incident on a patrolled site, meaning the control centre would have full visibility of the location of their fleet vehicles, in real-time, and would therefore be able to make the most effective vehicle allocation decisions.
Specialist mapping software could also be used to provide security personnel with information about incidents in real-time. For example, if ordered with 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity (see ‘Connectivity’ below), and combined with specialist software, our computers could allow patrols to see exactly where a break-in has occurred (point of entry, alarm sensors triggered, etc), allowing them to respond efficiently and effectively and to be better prepared. Moreover, information can be logged for future investigation and analysis for operational improvement.
Security & Safety
Our in-vehicle PCs can also help provide high levels of security and improve safety. Due to their high level of expandability, many security-related devices, such as cameras and light control systems, can be connected to the PCs, enabling security personnel to undertake effective environmental scanning and easily control vehicle light systems.
Our in-vehicle computers also support multiple displays, which can be particularly useful if a passenger in the vehicle wants to review live or past CCTV footage while the driver is directed to a specific part of a complex site by navigation software.
Connectivity
The versatile connectivity of our in-vehicle PC systems allows for a wide range of communication methods. If ordered with built-in 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity, security personnel are able to remotely send and retrieve CCTV footage. This may be particularly useful if an incident has previously occurred on a particular patrol site and security personnel are required to review and improve their operations and movements for future prevention. If security personnel are required to patrol on foot or depart from the vehicle for any reason, HQ could view live CCTV footage and take control of the PC (and therefore the CCTV cameras), if specialist remote access software were used. In addition to video footage, photos could also be sent to HQ, allowing for fast and easy access to evidence and information.
3G and Wi-Fi could also be utilised for a messaging system between HQ and the vehicle fleet. Messages could include latest updates for a particular site being sent to a subset of vehicles, urgent alerts, incident reports, or other useful information.
Moreover, the expandability and connectivity of our in-vehicle PCs could be utilised to communicate with the emergency services, should they need to be alerted. For example, with specialist software, a network could be established with police services, enabling the instantaneous communication of incident details, CCTV footage, photographic evidence, etc. Potentially, this could save critical time and therefore help to catch criminals and reduce the amount of criminal damage caused.
Process & Procedures
As mentioned earlier, our in-vehicle computers are fully featured Windows PCs, meaning that a wide range of specialist and non-specialist software can be installed. This enables security organisations to use the computers for a countless number of purposes. For example, a prompting system could be set up in each security vehicle, which provides interactive forms or checklists for the user to complete. This could be anything from compulsory safety checklists to staff clocking and incident reporting forms. This flexibility allows security organisations to receive incident reports within seconds of them being submitted, meaning that investigations and analyses can take place as early as possible.
Suitability for the Security Industry
Due to the nature of the security industry, staff sometimes have to exit the vehicle rapidly in order to detain suspects. The fact that our PCs and displays are mounted permanently to the vehicle facilitates this requirement perfectly, unlike laptops and tablets which are held by operators and are likely to end up on the floor in less than perfect working order in a rapid disembark situation.
By offering a single point of control, and with so many different potential uses for our in-vehicle PC systems, there is no need to purchase multiple pieces of hardware to perform these different tasks, which can dramatically reduce long-term hardware costs.
