In-CarPC Hardware

As standard we offer a total of 15 different types of vehicle PC, ranging from our incredibly small Pico PC with a Via C7 1.0 GHz processor, up to the slightly bigger but still very compact Mini systems with Intel Atom, Intel Core 2 Duo and Via C7 processors. We build all our PCs ourselves at our Bristol offices, which gives us complete control over the hardware we use, and allows us to rapidly produce bespoke computers for customers that have special requirements.

All our computers are designed specifically for use in a vehicle, and carry the automotive "e-mark" certification that is required by law for all vehicle-based equipment. Featuring internal intelligent automotive power supplies that are compatible with both 12V and 24V vehicles, our PCs can turn themselves on and off automatically with the vehicle ignition, and do not reboot when the vehicle's engine is cranked during starting. Our computers are made using the highest quality components, and carry a 2-year warranty as standard.

All our Mini PCs feature an auxiliary power output socket that provides a regulated 12V power source (up to 1.5A) for accessories such as LCD displays. As standard we preinstall either Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 3), or Windows Vista Business (with Service Pack 1).

We can supply our PCs either as part of a fully installed vehicle computer system, or as parts only, for you or your company to install.

In-CarPC Mini Vehicle Computers

The smallest of our Mini vehicle PCs are similar in size to a typical 6-CD changer unit, and as such are very easy to install into almost any vehicle. Designed specifically for the harsh environment of a vehicle, and housed in a tough aluminium enclosure, our Mini systems are highly reliable and are offered in an extensive range of configurations.

Intel Atom Single Core Models

Intel Atom logo Model: N1160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (single core) 
Overview: The N1160 is our highly capable entry-level system, and includes onboard graphics, audio, networking, 6 x USB2.0 ports, an RS-232 port and, of course, the intelligent internal automotive power supply that is common across our entire Mini Vehicle PC range.  The N1160 supports up to 2 GB RAM, and includes Intel Hyper-Threading Technology for enhanced system responsiveness.  The N1160 includes a PCI slot, which allows extra functionality to be added when used with the ICPC-3/4 enclosures. 

Intel Atom logo Model:  J2160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (single core) 
Overview:  This model has similar specifications to the N1160, but includes 2 x RS-232 ports.


Intel Atom logo Model:  J7160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (single core) 
Overview:  The J7160 is particularly suited to applications that require two independent displays to be driven.  This model has similar specifications to the N1160, but with twin independent video outputs (VGA and DVI) and 3 x RS-232 ports.

Intel Atom logo Model:  J3160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (single core) 
Overview:  The J3160 has a wealth of expansion options that, in most cases, do not require an upgrade to a larger chassis.  Options include a PCMCIA slot, a CF slot, GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi, up to 6 RS-232 ports and up to 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports.  The other specifications are similar to that of the N1160, with the exception that the J3160 includes 2 x RS-232 ports as standard.   

  

Intel Atom Dual Core Models

Intel Atom logo Model:  N3160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (dual core) 
Overview:  The N3160 has similar specifications to the N1160, but includes a dual core Intel Atom processor, also with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.   

Intel Atom logo Model: N2160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (dual core) 
Overview: 

The N2160's specifications are similar to those of the N3160, but include an independent S-Video output in addition to VGA.  This allows a secondary display to be used to show independent content from the primary display. 

Please note that we do not recommend the N2160 for applications where a low quality display (composite or S-Video) is used as the only display - please see our VLN100 and VEN150 models for these applications.   

Intel Atom logo Model:  J4160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (dual core) 
Overview:  This model has similar specifications to the N3160, but includes 2 x RS-232 ports.


Intel Atom logo Model:  J5160
Processor:  Intel Atom 1.6 GHz (dual core) 
Overview: 

The J5160 has a wealth of expansion options that, in most cases, do not require an upgrade to a larger chassis.  Options include a PCMCIA slot, a CF slot, GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi, up to 6 RS-232 ports and up to 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports.  The other specifications are similar to that of the N3160, with the exception that the J5160 includes 2 x RS-232 ports as standard.

  

Intel Core 2 Duo Models

Intel Core 2 Duo logo Model:  J6 series  NEW!
Processor:  Intel Core 2 Duo (mobile version) from 2.26 GHz to 2.8 GHz 
Overview:  The J6 series includes a range of powerful but efficient Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processors, and is designed for applications that require a significant level of processing performance.  All models can drive two independent displays simultaneously (via VGA, DVI or HDMI outputs), and include 2 x RS-232 ports and 2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports.  Up to 4 GB RAM is supported.  The internal Mini PCI Express port allows us to offer a range of optional built-in features, including GPS, 3G and Wi-Fi, and a PCI slot provides further upgrade potential when used with the ICPC-3/4 enclosures. 

Intel Core 2 Duo logo Model:  J1 series
Processor:  Intel Core 2 Duo (mobile version) from 1.66 GHz to 2.33 GHz 
Overview:  This model series has now been replaced by the J6 series (see above).  The J1 series is still available for existing customers wishing to retain compatibility with existing systems, but for new customers we recommend the J6 series.
 
Intel Core 2 Duo logo Model:  N4 series  NEW!
Processor:  Intel Core 2 Duo (desktop version) from 3.0 GHz to 3.33 GHz 
Overview:  The N4 series is designed for applications requiring the absolute maximum level of performance.   Using the powerful desktop version of Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, with speeds of up to 3.33 GHz and an FSB frequency of up to 1333 MHz, the N4 series provides an incredible level of performance in the same range of small chassis as all our other Mini models.  The N4 series supports up to 4 GB RAM, and includes 8 USB ports, an e-SATA port, an RS-232 port, and two independent video outputs in the form of DVI and HDMI outputs.  While not as expandable as the J6 series (see above), the N4 series does include a PCI Express port which can be used with the ICPC-3/4 enclosures. 

 

Via C7 Models

Via C7 logo Model:  VLN100
Processor:  Via C7 1.0 GHz 
Overview:  The VLN100 has now largely been replaced by our Intel Atom models, as detailed above.  However, with S-Video and composite video outputs in addition to VGA, the VLN100 is particularly suited to applications where the PC is to be used with a screen that does not support a high quality VGA video input, such as many factory fitted and aftermarket displays.  Unlike our Intel-based PCs, the VLN100 supports 2 PCI cards regardless of card type, when housed in the ICPC-4 enclosure.

Via C7 logo Model:  VEN150
Processor:  Via C7 1.5 GHz 
Overview:  The VEN150 is similar to the VLN100, but includes a faster 1.5 GHz processor.     


Via C7 logo Model:  VSN180
Processor:  Via C7 1.8 GHz 
Overview:  The VSN180 is a highly capable PC that supports up to 4 GB RAM and includes both a PCI Express x16 slot (when used with the ICPC-3/4 enclosures) and a Mini PCI slot which supports a range of internal devices such as GPS and Wi-Fi.  2 x RS-232 ports are included, as well as 2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports.      
 

Ordering Information

Each PC that we build is characterised by a model number, the first part of which follows this format:

          ICPC-[Chassis Type]-[PC model number as detailed above, e.g. VSN180]

For our Mini vehicle PCs, the chassis types are as follows:

ICPC-1: Our smallest chassis, which does not accommodate PCI or PCI Express expansion cards
ICPC-3: Supports a single low profile PCI card
ICPC-4: Supports up to 2 PCI cards and an internal optical drive or removable hard drive module.

Overview: 

Using one of the smallest motherboards on the market today, the VPX100 is designed for applications where space is in very short supply. Measuring a mere 13 x 13.5 x 6.5 cm, it can be installed into the smallest of spaces, and includes dual independent video outputs (VGA and DVI).
