Why is a car or vehicle computer useful?

This is a very important question, and it has its own page.

Why should I buy a car computer from In-CarPC?

Another important question that has its own page.

Are your computers e-marked?

Yes, all our standard computers are fully e-marked. The e-mark is a legal requirement for aftermarket electronic devices, and guarantees that our computers will not interfere with your vehicle's electronics. Click here for more information about e-marking.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes - please enquire for shipping costs to your country.

Won't it make the vehicle a target for thieves?

This is unlikely. In many cases the screen that we install for the driver recesses out of sight into the dashboard whenever you leave your car, but if you choose a free-standing display it can quickly be removed and hidden away with minimum fuss. The computer itself is usually mounted in the boot, so will be completely out of sight anyway. If you want screens for the rear passengers we can provide covers that fit over the front seat headrests, disguising the fact that LCD displays are installed. All of the keyboards and mice we offer are small, and can easily be tucked into a door storage pocket or the glove compartment. Thus there will be no obvious sign that your vehicle possesses the most advanced aftermarket technology available.

Do I need to be good with computers?

No. Our systems use an intuitive touchscreen interface that controls various features of the system while you drive (like the music, phone, and navigation). This is just as easy to learn to use as any other consumer electronics device like an mp3 player or sat-nav system.

When using the computer when you are not driving the vehicle (for things like sending emails and creating documents) there will be no learning curve at all, as you will be using Windows XP or Windows 7 and other familiar programs - just as if you were using any other computer.

All our fully installed systems are supplied with a comprehensive user's manual, which clearly describes how to use all the advanced features of your car computer. And if you still have any questions then all you have to do is ask us.

Will the computer's audio output be heard over the vehicle's sound system?

Yes, we can connect the PC to the vehicle's sound system, or even install a completely new sound system if necessary.

Can I choose the exact features that I want?

Yes. We list some typical fully installed systems, but if you want a different feature set then please contact us.

Can the system be upgraded when new features come onto the market?

Definitely! That's one of the reasons why having a car computer system is such a good idea. We will keep you informed of any developments in our product range, giving you the option of upgrading. In fact, your system can be changed in any way you want after you've bought it. So, if you buy a system with just one screen and then a few weeks, months or years later decide you want to add some more screens, that's no problem. Just as for the initial installation, the upgrade can be carried out at your choice of location.

Can you install computers into other vehicles like vans, trucks and motorhomes?

Yes, we can install our computers into anything that moves and has a roof. Naturally our own vans are equipped with car computers, so if you would like to see one then please let us know.

Can extra displays be installed so that passengers can use the computer as well?

Yes, we can install additional displays in your vehicle so that passengers can use the system as well. For example, if we installed 2 screens in the rear of your vehicle then one rear seat passenger could watch a DVD while another rear seat passenger browsed the internet or sent an email. The driver's screen would be unaffected by this, and would continue to provide, for example, navigation information. Click here for more information on additional displays.

Will the car be permanently altered?

No - the installation process of one of our car computer systems is completely reversible, and the car can easily be restored to its previous state. We always discuss the installation process with you, giving you complete choice over the work that gets done to your vehicle

Can the system be transferred from one vehicle to another?

Yes - at any point during the ownership of your car computer system we will be happy to transfer the system to another vehicle for you, although there will be a small charge for this.

What if things go wrong?

All our computers are covered by a one-year warranty, although this can be extended to two or three years at any point before the standard warranty expires. In the unlikely event that something should go wrong we will fix the problem as soon as possible. If required we can provide on-site support to minimise any inconvenience.

Can I choose where all the components are installed in the vehicle?

Yes. On the day of the installation one of our engineers will discuss exactly where you want all the components placed.

What happens to the car's existing radio?

Often we replace the vehicle's existing radio with our own display that has a built-in radio, but if you want to keep your factory fitted head unit then that's no problem. Unlike some other systems on the market, our computers do not require a spare single or double DIN slot (the rectangular slot that houses your car radio), although they can make good use of one if it is available.

Will the system be ready to use immediately for things like internet and using my mobile phone?

Yes it will. We are authorised stockists for Vodafone, Orange and O2, which means we can supply your car computer with an active internet connection (if you choose this option). We will also set up your mobile phone for you so that it can be controlled via the computer (again, if you choose this option). We try to have everything working for you right from the start.

How powerful is the computer system?

The processors our systems use range from a Via C7 running at 1.0 GHz right up to an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 3.33 GHz.
