PC-based Satellite Navigation
Our car computers can provide advanced satellite navigation facilities to guide you smoothly to your destination.
Features include:
- Full 7-digit UK postcode search - When programming a destination you can search by UK postcode (including all digits), a street address, a road intersection or latitude & longitude coordinates.
- Complete European maps - Detailed street-level maps for the whole of Europe are included, with maps for other parts of the world also available.
- Automatic rerouting - don't worry if you make a wrong turning as the computer will quickly calculate an alternative route.
- Points of interest with direct dial - A large number of points of interest are included, such as petrol stations, hotels, car parks, cash machines, etc. If you choose our mobile phone hands-free option you can call most of these points of interest from within Navigation mode.
- Voice prompts - turn-by-turn instructions are spoken to you in a clear female voice over your car's speakers. Any music playing will automatically be faded out while voice prompts are being given.
- On-screen map - A large and easy to read map is displayed on the screen, showing your current position and the route ahead, with a choice between 2D and 3D views. Because our computers use much larger screens than portable navigation devices, there is plenty of room for both the on-screen map and a list of upcoming turns to be shown at the same time, as in the picture above. The upcoming turns list is extremely useful when negotiating multiple turns in quick succession, for example when exiting a motorway.
- Journey information - Your direction, altitude, current speed, estimated time to go, estimated time of arrival or distance to go can be displayed beside the map.
- Avoid roads - You can set the navigator to avoid a road included in your current route, or you can set up a list of roads that are always avoided. Toll roads can also be avoided.
- Night mode - darkens the on-screen map to avoid partially blinding the driver at night. This can either be set to happen automatically at a certain time of day, or be done manually.
- Automatic mode switch - The navigation facilities are integrated into the Centrafuse software interface. If Centrafuse has been switched to a different mode (e.g. phone mode), Navigation will automatically be selected when you approach your next turn.
- Favourites - an unlimited number of favourites can be stored and organised into your own categories
- Trip planner - You can add various destinations to a trip list, so that after you arrive at each sub-destination you will automatically be directed to the next place in the list.
- Route overview - shows a map of your complete route
- Choice of route calculations - choose between shortest (in distance) or quickest (in time) route
And, of course, unlike standard sat-nav systems, our car computers have internet access (if you choose this option) so you can use online resources like Google Local or Yell.com to find places quickly wherever you are - for example, the address of a particular business that isn't listed in the Points of Interest.
The satellite navigation software is part of the Centrafuse software interface. Centrafuse is regularly updated as new features are added, so rest assured that the navigation software will get even better in the future.
Navigation for Trucks and other Large Vehicles
We can provide an alternative navigation program designed specifically for larger vehicles, which optimises the route based on the vehicle's height and weight. This ensures that routes which are impassable to larger vehicles, such as low bridges and narrow lanes, are avoided.
